Rachel’s Ramblings : Battle of the moms

I was watching the Oprah Winfrey Show one weekend and it was a mom show. The entire audience was filled with mothers and the issues addressed were centered on mothers.

One issue that particularly caught my attention was a lady who said moms were against each other. The ‘stay-home’ moms were against the career moms. I don’t know if you find this as disturbing as I do. Mothers should all be on the same team. It is the hardest job on this planet so why should they go against each other when what they need is support? It’s absurd.

The stay-home moms claimed that career moms miss out on their children. Whereas that maybe true, do they think these women want to miss out on their children?

If you have a husband with a wonderful salary and he is capable of looking after the family on his own, then by all means stay home.

Not everyone is that fortunate.
Some couples have to combine efforts to take care of their families. With mortgage loans, school fees, electricity and water bills, food, clothing, car expenses and more bills, it’s not easy handling them on a solo project unless you make crazy money!

I have the utmost respect for single moms. It is understandable if the father of the kid is deceased. But some of them are very much alive and just move on with life, without a care in the world! When you’ve raised your child to become everything you’d hoped for, the self-exiled dads come strolling back demanding rights to their kid. That is a sad reality single-moms have to face.

This is where mothers should support each other. Nobody can understand how hard it is to raise a child until they get one. That’s why I don’t understand how a mother can criticize another.

Career moms work for a reason—to put food on the table, cloth their children and keep a roof over their heads. Not forgetting their responsibility to educate their children for an empowered future. I am sure they would love nothing more than to stay home and watch these little bundles of joy grow.

But they can’t because they have to look after them and if they don’t do it, who will?

Mothers should be supportive of each other. They can’t all do the same thing. Cut a sister some slack; she’s doing the best she can. Every mother’s biggest concern is the well being of her kids.

For those working moms that live with their children, going back home is the highlight of their day because I bet they’ve been looking forward to seeing the kids all day.

Weekend also helps them spend extra time with their children even if it is just for a couple of hours, it counts.

To the single dads out there, kudos! It’s always good to know that there are still some guys out there who haven’t lost focus!
