The National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) conducted a survey to establish the importance of courses offered by institutions of higher learning on nationwide growth. Several surveys show that higher institutions of learning offer irrelevant courses to students which impacts negatively the improvement and shape of the labour market.

Below is what several people said regarding the issue:

Bob Gakire (Self employed)

There are no irrelevant courses at university. Instead the educational bodies should revise the proper means in the way they lecture the students.

Judith Mukabalisa (Parent)

All along these courses have existed and several people have excelled in life yet they offered the same courses.

Emmanuel Bakinzwanimana (Student)

Maybe if they are to develop or change the national education curriculum but all courses are relevant.

Marie-Claire Uwituyimana (Student)

Besides the courses at University, even the secondary students offer subjects that won’t help them at all while pursuing diplomas or degrees. The survey should start from grass roots or the foundation of education.

Jack Radeon (Businessman)

When one compares the education system of Africa to the western system of education they are totally different. In the Western system of education a child is given chance to select the kind of course they are to offer in University at an early stage so they are basically trained or taught what they pursue in future.

Desire Umutoni (Student)

Why would anyone tag courses irrelevant? They are no courses that are irrelevant since they were invented and are taught because they had an impact to society.
