KAMONYI- A civil marriage of 100 couples in Mugina sector, Kamonyi District on Tuesday turned dramatic after a woman stormed the ceremony demanding that authorities to halt the wedding of her husband with another woman.

Local leaders were forced to halt the marriage of Emmanuel Havugimana and his new wife after Rosa Mukabarama, complained that Havugimana had abandoned her and their two children.

Mukabarama who was visibly sad and covered with tears, even claimed that Havugimana had earlier threatened to kill her if she interfered with his move.

"I cannot be abandoned and threatened to be killed with all my children. I would like the leaders to protect me and my children because my husband has said that he will kill us,” she cried.

Mukabarama also asked local leaders to ensure that her children are registered under Havugimana’s names and her security restored ‘after a long period of living under fear’.

Mugina Sector leader, Jean Marie Vianney Rwiririza, said that the issue will be resolved by local courts.

"The children must be registered and the issue will be addressed since there is evidence that the lady has been previously abused and is insecure,” Rwiririza said.

Other couples who took the marriage vows lauded the government for promoting women and children rights through improving family development initiatives.
