The students include Dieudonne Irankunda, last years’ East African Essay competition winner and Emmanuel Manirakiza.
African Leadership Academy (ALA), seeks to transform Africa by developing and supporting future generations of African leaders.

The academy which opened in September 2008, brings together the most promising 15-18 year-olds from all 54 African nations and beyond- for an innovative two-year programme designed to prepare each student for a lifetime of leadership on the continent.

"I’m glad to have this opportunity; I will make my dreams come true one day. I encourage other students to overcome fears and go for every prospect that comes their way,’’ Manirakiza, who was orphaned by the Genocide when he was three years, said.

He was admitted at Sonrise High School by Bishop John Rucyahana on humanitarian grounds.
