KIGALI - Rwanda Development Bank (BRD), yesterday, inaugurated a Memorial at its premises to remember 13 colleagues who lost their lives during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

During the ceremony, the Minister of Sports and Culture, Joseph Habineza, welcomed the initiative by the bank’s management.

"This is a good example for other institutions; they should take a lead in remembering the victims of 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi as well as helping the victims’ families,” Habineza said.

BRD Managing Director, Jack Kayonga reminded the crowd that like other institutions in the country, BRD also lost some of its staff members during the tragic events of 1994.
"Today we have beside us a memorial site dedicated to those we lost...it will also serve to guide the future generation against destructive policies,” he said.
Kayonga also paid tribute to family members of the slain workers.

"We feel the loss, and we are thinking about you. Your loved ones were part of us, part of the BRD family and they have a special place at the bank and the employees’ hearts,” Kayonga said.

Among the remembered was a former Managing Director of the bank.
