KIgali City Council is planning to improve the road network.

Editor,

I would like to respond to the letter written to the editor in your Tuesday issue. Sam Rwego, a resident of Kimihurura wanted to know when their road would be repaved. Though he didn’t specify where exactly in Kimihurura he lives. But there are plans to tarmac different roads and even repave old ones in Kigali.

For Kimihurura, preparatory works have already started to repave ‘Avenue des Ministres’ popularly known as ‘Ikiminisitiri’ and its rehabilitation is planned to be completed before the end of this year. This road is part of the project that is rehabilitating 36 km in Kigali city. Other roads in this project include Kanombe, Nyamirambo, Kanogo-city center, Kinamba and others.

In the coming financial year 2010-2011, Kigali city plans to tarmac 103 km in different parts of the city. Particularly in Kimihurura, Kigali city will tarmac Gishushu-UNILAK-Shell petro station road and Primature-Mukiyembe-Cadillac road.

Last year Kigali city signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry will support Kigali city district to rehabilitate over 100 km of murrum roads in the residential areas. So this year has seen different murram roads in the residential areas rehabilitated and more are under this scheme.
