The management of the Commercial Bank of Rwanda (BCR) on Friday visited the Ruhanga genocide memorial center in Gasabo district. Last year, BCR made a similar visit to this memorial center where a total of 30,000 victims were laid to rest.

"As BCR, we are pleased to help the orphans in any possible way that we can and we are going to make sure that bring power to their homes as soon as possible,” said Sanjeev Anand, the Managing Director of BCR.

Anand said that BCR would discuss with electrogaz the possibility of having a power project that can be expedited and also added that since the orphans in Ruhanga are not many they should be enrolled into vocational training programs.  

The Anglican Church has already built 30 houses for the 66 survivors with only 8 of them going to school. Three are currently at university while 9 have completed secondary school last year.

Pastor Antoine Rutayisire, who was also present, advised the survivors not get engulfed by grief but they should stay focused with the hope and desire to live a better life in future. Rutayisire also thanked the management of BCR for their continued support to the orphans.

"Our biggest challenge has been the distance we walk to get water but soon we shall have flowing piped water and BCR has given us a 13,000 litre tank that can help solve the problem,” said Jean Claude Kayitare the children representative.
