RUHANGO- 2000 heifers worth Rwf700m have been donated to vulnerable Genocide orphans in 27 districts countrywide by the Fund for Genocide Survivors (FARG).

The Executive Secretary of FARG, Ildephonse Niyonsenga, disclosed this on Wednesday while handing over some of the crossbreed cows in Ruhango District.

Rwf1billion was budgeted for the cattle stocking project, including technical support which will cost Rwf300millions, Niyonsenga said.

At least 230,000 vulnerable survivors in 27 districts are expected to benefit from the project by the end of next year.

Niyonsenga, explained that the donation supplements the ‘One Cow per Family’ programme and targets survivors who live under very harsh conditions.

The beneficiaries hailed FARG for the support and promised to take good care of the animals. Speaking on behalf of the survivors, Nathanael Gahamanyi said that the support would help survivors improve their welfare.

The main suppliers revealed that the beneficiaries were able to choose the best cattle breeds, with the help of Rwanda Animal Resources Development Authority (RARDA).
