KIGALI - The newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Rwanda, Sun Shuzhong, yesterday met with the Secretary General of Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) François Ngarambe and discussed issues related to strengthening bilateral cooperation.

The meeting took place at the RPF Secretariat. The two men vowed to strengthen cooperation between their ruling parties, Chinese ruling Communist Party and RPF.

"After Ngarambe’s visit to China, I felt I had to pay him a visit too. We discussed issues related to our official work and I told him the Chinese Communist Party appreciates the cooperation between the two parties,” Shuzhong said after the meeting.
Ngarambe said that his discussions with Shuzhong were mostly based on his work and his stay in Rwanda.
"RPF has a strong relationship with the Communist Party in China to which Shuzhong belongs. We basically talked about Chinese development activities in our country and how we can strengthen ties between the two sister parties,” Ngarambe said.
Shuzhong’s visit comes months after Ngarambe visited China leading a nine-man delegation and met with top government officials there.
China is currently engaged in many development activities in Rwanda like road construction, building of schools, hospitals and other activities.
Officials said that China will also build the new President’s Office premises, whose construction is expected to begin soon.
Rwanda has started teaching Chinese language to her citizens, with classes already running at Kigali Institute of Education (KIE).
President Paul Kagame has also made several diplomatic trips to China while Chinese top government officials have also visited Rwanda frequently.
