KIGALI - An employee of MTN Rwanda and a Radio presenter have been arrested in connection with an alleged extortion scam.

The suspects; Moses Uwiyingoma, an employee of MTN and Emmy Gakuru of Flash FM,  were arrested after they connived to take some of the Rwf 2m cash prize that had been won by an MTN subscriber in the ongoing  Bebeza Cash promotion.

MTN has been giving away Rwf10 every week to 20 winners since May. The draw is based on a Random Generation System.

When contacted, Prosecution Spokesman, Augustin Nkusi confirmed the arrest, saying that the pair was apprehended in the course of withdrawing the money from the bank.

According to Nkusi, Gakuru admitted that he had requested the winner to give them half the prize money or they give it to another subscriber.

The pair is expected to be charged soon.
