Media outlets have been urged to be innovative and match the current modernization trends so as to be more competitive.

The call was made, last Friday, by the Minister of Cabinet Affairs and caretaker Minister of Information, Protais Musoni, at the closure of a 10-day training on the role of public media in fostering democracy. 

The training, which was organized by Rwanda Bureau of Information and Broadcasting (ORINFOR) in collaboration with Media High Council saw 50 journalists awarded with certificates of participation.

The minister further urged the media practitioners to timely inform Rwandans on developmental issues ideas. He also called upon journalists to play a significant role in ensuring that the forthcoming elections are successfully conducted.

It was recommended that the media should give equal space and time to all presidential candidates.

Speaking on behalf of the journalists, Farouk Nduwumwe, a news anchor at Rwanda Television, stressed the need for sufficient facilitation and equipment like cameras, recorders to help journalists cover the elections country wide.

Patrice Mulama, the Executive Secretary of MHC, promised journalists that the council will facilitate election coverage through a press center  that will be set up to cater for the needs of Journalists.
