Erlinder should face the Law

Editor, I am perturbed by people who, continuously, call for the release of the accused American, Peter Erlinder. Either these people are deliberately not bothering to know the facts surrounding the crimes the professor is accused of or they don’t believe in justice.

Editor,

I am perturbed by people who, continuously, call for the release of the accused American, Peter Erlinder. Either these people are deliberately not bothering to know the facts surrounding the crimes the professor is accused of or they don’t believe in justice.

The facts in this case are plain and simple and not rocket science. It is a crime to deny, minimize and down play the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi according to Rwandan law.

Erlinder is deemed to have violated this law through his publications, speeches and other writings. I believe that the defense lawyers are also wrong to insist that his works are protected by ‘functional immunity’, because in his book ‘Documents about Rwanda’ he was not in court and the book was clearly made for public use. Leave the law to take its course.
