RWANDA will not field a team in the World Amateur Championship to be hosted by Argentina from October 16-31 at Buenos Aires Golf Club.

According to the Kigali Golf Club captain, Rajan Tiwari, the club does not have the funds to send a team to Argentina. "I don’t think we shall be competing this year but we can have a go at the event in the near future,” said Rajan.

Meanwhile, Tanzania is the only East African country that has started preparations for the World event.

The Tanzania Golf Union said recently that the amateurs should train hard so as to win the selection for the national team ahead of the global tourney.

Only three amateurs are supposed to join the team and probably a reserve player might be added in the final squad selection depending on available resources.
Tanzania will be featuring in the championship for the first time in history.

The World Amateur Team Championships (WATC) was founded in 1958 and it takes place every two years. It is organized by the International Golf Federation (IGF) and the national federations of golf from the host nation in every edition.

This year, an estimate of 120 teams (70 teams of men and 50 of women) are expected to compete.
