Is England really a favourite?

I always tell colleagues that it is fine to be corrupted by the English media into believing that the three lions are favourites with Brazil, Spain, Germany, Argentina, Italy, and Netherlands in that order to win this year’s Fifa World Cup.

I always tell colleagues that it is fine to be corrupted by the English media into believing that the three lions are favourites with Brazil, Spain, Germany, Argentina, Italy, and Netherlands in that order to win this year’s Fifa World Cup.

Very many people including myself can easily name Capello’s 23 man squad and even remember the six players that he dropped yet we could all struggle to name Brazil, Germany and Spain’s full squads.

Everyone blamed Robert Green for the1-1 draw without even giving the US any credit despite the fact that the team, which stunned Spain in last year’s Confederations Cup, matched England in all departments.

That is exactly how the English tabloids have managed to sway many English speaking people.

King out

The gifted and injury prone Ledley King may not take part in the latter stages of the tournament leaving the England defense fickle.

It is always suicidical to make predictions especially for us in print media but I will take that chance.

If England finish second in their group, then they will play probably Germany who are expected to top their Group. I don’t see England getting past Germany.
