A Swedish based comedy group, ‘Teater Albatross’ is in the country to perform their play ‘KONGO’. ‘KONGO’ is a gripping tale of Congo’s fascinating dramatic past in a poetic performance that combines public education and magic.

The play is performed in English and with subtitles in French. The Rwandan tour comes shortly after ‘Teater Albatross’ has concluded their trip in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to mark the country’s 50-years of Independence.

In DRC, Teater Albatross performed in the three major cities of Kinsasha, Bukavu and Goma, while in Rwanda they will visit two cities Huye and Kigali.

Their first performance in the country was at National University of Rwanda (NUR) on June 15. In Kigali, they are scheduled to stage two performances at Ishyo Arts Centre in Kacyiru on June 17-19—starting at 7:00 p.m and 2:00 p.m respectively.

While in DRC, the group was collaborating with Theatres Marabout and CANACU and in Rwanda their partner is Atome (a renowned local comedian).

Teater Albatross is composed of four members and has existed for more than 20 years; touring over 29 countries across the world.

The group has worked on African themes, including a play titled ‘Beyond The Sea’ about a fishing village in Cameroon, and a play called ‘Mary Kingsley’, about the English explorer Mary Kingsley—who traveled around in West Africa in the 1890’s.

‘Beyond The Sea’ is performed in English, while ‘Mary Kingsley’ is in French.
