NYAGATATARE - Youth in Nyagatare district have been urged to take part in the country’s development programmes so as to transform their status.

The call was made by James Gakuru, Nyagatare Sector Executive Secretary, during community work that was organised by the National Youth Council on Saturday.

"It is youth that play a considerable role in every activity that can develop the country. Such community work we have carried out today is part of the youth’s contribution to our country’s development,” he said.

The youth among them students from Nyagatare Nursing School cleaned Nyagatare market and other parts of trading zones in the town centre.

Gakuru said that participation in community work signals the youth’s readiness to help local leaders in ensuring district’s rapid development.

James Gafurama, the head of the National Youth Council in the district, thanked the youth for participating in community work which he said is part of the country’s civic programmes.

Urging the group to turn out in large numbers for the upcoming presidential elections slated for August, he said there was need for the youth to work hard to implement the country’s programmes.
