A modern stadium to be constructed in Huye, Southern Province is expected to cost about Rwf550m, according to the Minister of Sports and Culture Joseph Habineza.

The minister revealed that of the Rwf1.4billion that has been allocated to the ministry for the 2010/11 financial year, Rwf550m is going into the stadium construction while the rest will help in running affairs of the ministry.

Huye stadium will be the sixth artificial turf stadium in Rwanda after Regional stadium, Mumena, Ferwafa, Kicukiro and Rubavu. Habineza was however not shy to indicate that the money allocated to the ministry is low given the number of emerging sporting disciplines in the country.

Habineza now says that the ministry is already working round the clock to devise new strategies of luring sponsors.
The amount will make other things cater for Amavubi’s 2012 Africa Nations Cup qualifiers which kick off in September as well as preparations for the Singapore Youth Games and Delhi Commonwealth Games.
Other tournaments include; the Africa Cycling Championship set for November in Rwanda and Fiba-Africa Club Championships set for Burundi.
