NYAGATARE - Over sixty business operators, some of them farmers, from Gatsibo, Kayonza and Nyagatare districts were last week trained in managing their businesses.

The workshop, organised by Umutara Community Resources and Infrastructure Development Programme (PDRCIU), was meant to build the capacity of participants to minimise business risks and increase their earnings, according to Stephen Bashaija, the project coordinator.

"We have trained them on how to share experiences, ideas and come up with best practices in their respective fields of operations to effectively and efficiently boost their incomes,” he said.  

The first of its kind, the workshop mainly targeted rural farmers. Nicolas Rwaka, the vice Mayor of Gatsibo District who also participated in the workshop, said that the training would increase the performance of business operators.

"The workshop trained farmers, micro-finance operators and other groups, and I hope this is the way that will improve their operations through sharing experiences,” he said.

Edward Nkuriye, one of the local farmers in Gatunda Sector, Nyagatare District, who attended the workshop, told The New Times that the workshop enabled him to learn vital information that would help him improve his farming methods.
