The vice president of Rwanda National Olympics Committee (RNOC) has appealed to each Rwandan to support the national teams bound for Beijing Olympic.

"We are remaining with just eight months to the event but the teams’ preparations are still far too behind schedule,” Pierre Claver Rwaka said before calling on the ministry of Youth, Culture and Sports as well as all potential sponsors including public and private institutions to support their country.

Rwaka said that given the enough support, the number of participants in Beijing would be increased.
"It’s difficult for us (RNOC) and Mijespoc to prepare the athletes on our own. There is needs for help from sponsors and other stake holders,” he admitted.

So far only Dieudonne Disi has the Beijing qualifying minimum (A) in Athletes and two Paralympics Athletes Jean de Dieu Nkundabera and Hermans Muvunyi both with the A minimum. Rwaka applauded the Athletics Federation (RAF) for organizing a national championship  and urged that three or four more events should be organized prior the Beijing event.

Rwanda is expected to be represented at next year’s Olympics in five sports disciplines including athletic, boxing, swimming, cycling and Paralympics.

With just over 200 days remaining, the teams haven’t started their preparations, however, RNOC officials are opportimistic the preparations would start before the end of this month.
