APR vs Electrogaz

ELECTROGAZ is what stands between APR and the final of this year’s MTN Peace Cup. The two sides face off this afternoon at Amahoro stadium.

While Kalisa Mao (injured), Albert Ngabo (injured) and Tchimanga Mutamba (suspended) are suspended for the semi-final, APR head coach Erik Paske is happy to have his midfield linchpin Jean Baptist Mugiraneza a.k.a Migi and Emmanuel Sebanani Crespo back in the squad.

The pair missed Wednesday’s 4-0 Primus league win over Etincelles due to injury.

"We are missing three top defenders in Ngabo, Mao and Mutamba but we have cover and should be fine if we stick to our usual game,” Paske said.

Elias Kafoteka, Jean Bosco Uwacu and Ismail Nshutinamagara are now expected to fill up the back line while the in-form Msowoya Chiukepo and Victor Nyirenda will lead the striking line as usual.

In his own right, Electrogaz coach Abdul Mbarushimana expects a close encounter.

"We have played well in this tournament and have the confidence to pull off an upset,” he said.

APR are chasing for a fifth MTN Peace Cup after victories in 2002, 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Paske whose contract expires in October has vowed to leave behind a lasting legacy by becoming only the second coach in APR’s 16-year history to win a treble after lifting the Cecafa Kagame Cup and Primus league.

In 2007, DRC Coach Andy Mfutila rewrote history when he reached the landmark. APR wrapped up a record eleventh title on Wednesday when they thrashed Etincelles 4-1 at Nyamirambo stadium.
