Paul Bitok passes on some tips to an APR player during a past competition.

THREE local clubs and the national women junior team are scheduled to take part in the Bitok International volleyball tourney which takes place in Nairobi on Saturday and Sunday.

The 9th edition is expected to attract over 20 teams including Nemo Stars, KCC, KCB, Post, APR, UNR, KVC from Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda.

The tournament is held in honour of APR and Rwanda’s national women volleyball coach Paul Bitok. The Kenyan, who left a lasting legacy in his native country after taking both Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and Kenya’s national women volleyball team to greater heights, has been a revelation to local volleyball. He has already won three titles with APR including the just ended Genocide Memorial tournament which had also attracted Ugandan sides.

Ahead of the tournament, Bitok said that he is working hard to convince Africa’s volleyball body (CAVB) to incorporate the tournament into their annual calendar.

The winner of the two day event pockets Rwf0.8m while the second and third teams walk away with Rwf0.57m and Rwf0.29m respectively courtesy of DSTV, Legacy Hotel, Keino, Aviation, Kampala Coach, and Soroyo Water.
