APR vs Etincelles- Nyamirambo

APR will make it a record eleven titles if they beat or draw against Western Province side Etincelles this afternoon at Nyamirambo stadium.

The army side, who recently lifted their third Cecafa Kagame Cup after trouncing Ethiopia’s St. George in the final, top the league charts with 48 points-five ahead of closest challengers Atraco and a further nine clear of Etincelles, who have enjoyed a success season by their standards.

With two more games to wrap up the season, Erik Paske’s side needs one more point to lift what would be their 11th title and a second in a row for the Dutch tactician who took over in 2008.

The first leg between the sides brings back both good and bad memories for the army side. While APR wrestled to a 2-1 win, their influential skipper Mbuyu Twite suffered a broken leg ruling him out for the rest of the season.

In the run in to today’s game, APR’s assistant coach Eric Nshimiyimana has challenged his guns to wrap it up.

"The title is there for the taking and we want to finish off the job against Etincelles,” the former APR and Amavubi midfielder said.

APR will however miss the services of influential midfielder Jean Baptista Mugiraneza a.k.a Migi, Emmanuel Sebanani Crespo and Albert Ngabo who are all nursing injuries sustained during Amavubi’s 1-0 win over Tanzania on Sunday.

Should APR lift the title, they will be a trophy away from sealing a treble.

If Paske wins a treble this season, he will be the second coach to do so in the club’s 16-year-history. In 2007, DRC’s Andy Mfutila won a treble after guiding the side to the national league, Amahoro Cup and Kagame Cup title.
