EDITOR,

Over the past 15 years, endangered mountain gorillas in the great Virunga massif have survived extinction by 17 percent—a great environmental achievement worldwide.

While Rwanda with the support of international environmental organizations reaps from its intense conservation efforts, they have spared a breed of species that have in turn contributed to the economic growth of the country.

Additionally, a lot of income generated from gorilla tourism has been injected into community development initiatives that have greatly improved the standard of living of the local population that would otherwise have encroached and destroyed the gorilla’s homes.

Rwanda is truly the hope of Africa when it comes to showcasing the future of a better continent in terms of sustainable development in all aspects of the economy.
