ICGLR meet opens today

KIGALI - Members of the Executive Committee of the parliamentary forum of Member States of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (PF/ICGLR) will begin a two-day meeting in Kigali to evaluate their progress, Parliamentary officials said yesterday.

KIGALI - Members of the Executive Committee of the parliamentary forum of Member States of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (PF/ICGLR) will begin a two-day meeting in Kigali to evaluate their progress, Parliamentary officials said yesterday.

Parliament’s Director General for Communication and Outreach, Augustine Habimana told The New Times, yesterday, that the meeting, which is the 3rd of its nature, will among other things establish a precise timetable (date and venue) for the activities of the Forum outlined in the Accord that establishes ICGLR.

According to Habimana, the meeting will review different issues pertaining to the ICGLR and its duties.

"The meeting will among others draft responsibilities, composition and functioning of the General Secretariat of the Forum, draft modalities for the selection of the Forum’s Head Office, the selection of the Forum’s Secretary General and also establishment of the Forum’s Committees,” he said 

According to a program, the Executive Secretary of ICGLR, Ambassador Liberata Mulamula, is expected to make a presentation on "the implementation of the Pact on Security, Stability and Development in the Great Lakes Region”.

The ICGLR was established by the Presidents of Rwanda, Angola, Burundi, the Central African Republic, Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia during a meeting in Dar Es-Salaam, in 2004.
