In an effort to save Nyandungu wetland, over 14,000 trees have been planted in Rusororo Sector, Gasabo District ahead of the World Environment Day to be hosted in the country. Addressing various government officials, international guests and over 3,000 students from King David and Ndera secondary schools, Environment Minister, Stanislas Kamanzi thanked them for being involved in the exercise that was organised by Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) and his ministry.

Addressing various government officials, international guests and over 3,000 students from King David and Ndera secondary schools, Environment Minister, Stanislas Kamanzi thanked them for being involved in the exercise that was organised by Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) and his ministry.
As we, like other countries in the world, celebrate the World Environment Day, I thank you for have taken part in the tree-planting exercise in this wetland because this is a sign of protecting our environment” Kamanzi said.
He added that Rwanda was honoured to host this year’s World Environment Day adding that this is due to the country’s tremendous efforts in promoting the environment.
Kamanzi urged the population to always engage in the activities that protect and improve the environment.
The Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programs (UNEP) Achim Steiner, hailed President Paul Kagame for his good leadership which had led to the rapid growth of the country, barely sixteen years after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
The tree-planting exercise was also attended by the Minister of Forests, Christopher Bazivamo, Defence minister, James Kabarebe, and the head of REMA, Dr. Rose Mukankomeje.
