Kigalians can’t say that they had boring weekends this year with a pool of comedy shows that kept happening weekend after weekend. Comedy events haven’t happened for the past two years due to the pandemic but this year comedians maximized the time lost and kept comedy lovers busy with a bunch of comedy shows.

Below are some of the top comedy shows that shaped this year:

Seka Live shows

Hosted by Arthur Nkusi, the brain behind the annual comedy event, this show has entertained Kigalians since May this year and ran until December. Starting off a ‘One-man show’ by Rusine, the comedian stole the hearts of revelers who had attended his first ever show. His drunk-inspired jokes owned the stage to the extent that comedians who performed after him struggled to keep the hype that he left inside the venue no matter how big their comedy profile is.

South African comedian Loyiso Madinga joined Zimbabwean Carl Joshua on the same stage of Rusine’s one-man show and had many jokes that cracked the audience.

From performances of Uganda’s funnyman Salvador to Kenya’s Eric Omondi, Loyiso Gola from South Africa and Anne Kansiime, Seka Live made sure to give comedy lovers memorable nights with a lineup of comedians around Africa each month. Besides international comedians, Rwanda’s homegrown talents Fally Merci, Roger, Rufendeke, Kibonke and Joshua among others also performed during the shows.

Rusine wowed the audience during his one man show.

Bigomba Guhinduka

Comedy duo 5k Etienne and Japhet Mazimpaka never miss out on giving comedy lovers happiness especially during their annual show ‘Bigomba Guhinduka’ a segment that put them into the spotlight. The duo has a unique way of telling jokes together in this segment and their fans don’t seem to get enough of it. During this year’ show, they announced an upcoming segment called ‘Muhamagare’ which is highly anticipated by their fans who shared a sneak peek on what the new segment is all about.

Comedy duo 5k Etienne and Japhet returned with Bigomba Guhinduka.

Gen Z comedy

Initiated by Rwandan funnyman Merci Ndaruhutse, commonly known as Fally Merci, the event kicked off for the first time in March this year with the aim of promoting young upcoming comedians in the country. The event started with comedians cracking jokes amongst themselves, and they now attract a huge number of comedy lovers. Fally Merci plans to take his team for road shows upcountry and in different schools. The Gen Z comedy show has become a go-to every two weeks on Thursday.

Zuby comedy shows

In November, the duo made of Seth and Samu delivered a great performance alongside Kenyan standup comedian MCA Tricky in what proved to be an entertaining second edition of Iwacu Comedy show held at Kigali Convention and Exhibition Village. After a successful performance in Kenya the duo decided to bless their home people with a second edition of ‘Iwacu Comedy Show’ in a big show and they never disappointed.

Caravane du rire

A lineup of 12 talented African comedians performed at the second edition of ‘Caravane du rire’ on December 15- 16 at Mundi Center (Boogaloo). The event organised by Comedy Knights had comedians from different African countries perform and light up the faces of those who attended the show. Apart from hilarious performances of comedians like Babou, Michael Sengazi, Tsi Tsi and Herve among others, Symphony band, DJ Phionah and Rwandan Puppeteers gave revelers a good time.
