RUSIZI – Youth and women representatives from all the 13 sectors of Rusizi sector, yesterday, finalised a two day training on stemming gender based violence (GBV).

The training was organized by Rusizi Youth Centre.
"Youth and women, should be at the forefront in curbing this vice. Through an honest and open approach, it is indeed possible to eradicate ignorance about GBV,” said Françoise Nirere, Vice Mayor in charge of Social affairs in Rusizi district.

Nirere blamed ignorance for fueling GBV but said that such challenges could be tackled through relevant training.

Participants vowed to use the knowledge they had acquired to fight the vice. Cases of GBV has been on the rise in Rusizi. Police report indicates that over 23 people died from GBV related cases, in the past two months.

There has been cases where people have committed suicide or killed their spouses due to minor family issues.
The training took place at Pastoral Building, in Rusizi district.
