DEO Akope kept his form in the KCB East African Golf Tour going in yesterday’s first round of the Kigali leg. The Ugandan opened with a two-under-par round of 70 to take an early lead while Kenya’s Simon Ngigi and Jacob Okello followed closely with 71.

Last year’s Rwanda Open champion Richard Ainley and Jean Baptist Hakizimana leveled the score (72) while Emmanuel Ruterana completed the top six with one-over-par. Of the 36 professionals in contention, only 20 will make the cut at the end of today’s second round.

After the four-day event, the winner will pocket Rwf1.4m while the second and third finishers will bag Rwf1.08m and Rwf817, 500 respectively.

The KCB East African Golf tour is a series of eight tournaments played in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda. This year, the KCB group has sponsored the tour to a tune of Rwf93.7m up from Rwf7.12m in 2007.
