BUGESERA — Prime Minister Bernard Makuza yesterday wound up his two-day tour of Bugesera District by visiting various communities in Ruhuha sector.

Addressing tens of thousands of residents, the Premier advised them to consolidate the various development projects in their sector for better results. He noted that there is vivid improvement in people’s lifestyle and livelihood.

"Your faces, the cows you own, the hygiene observed on your children, speak volumes about the general improvement in your daily lives,” he said.

"But this is not a miracle…something was done by you and the good governance in the country. You must thus consolidate it to achieve more,” he said.

The Premier noted that the network of roads, and the yet-to-be constructed international airport, will push the district to greater heights. 

"There are fantastic feeder roads in Bugesera; soon an airport will start operating. I am also surprised to see a village where every family owns a cow. These are great indicators of development,” he said attarcting applause from the residents.

Makuza further commended the national communal settlement programme commonly known as Imidugudu which he said have taken root in Ruhuha sector.

He added that such settlements have helped the people to access basic infrastructure, hence improving their living standards. "The system of settlement has proved to be vital for community development. We shall have to encourage other sectors in the country to emulate what I have seen here. ”

Dr. Ephraim Kabaija, the Governor of the Eastern Province, reiterated the need to push on until the districts eliminate all that hinder development.

"Our journey to sustainable development is still a long one that needs endurance, but we are sure we are in the right path,” he said.

The Premier was accompanied by the Minister of Health Dr. Richard Sezibera, Defense minister Gen. James Kabarebe, the Minister of Agriculture Agnes Kalibata and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, Eugene Barikana.
