MUHANGA – Residents of Nyarucyamo III village in Muhanga district have started enjoying clean water - a result of their hard work and contribution Ubudehe, a community development initiative.

The new water source worth over Rwf1.1million was commissioned, last Saturday, by Muhanga district Mayor, Yvonne Mutakwasuku.

The Mayor hailed the residents for their outstanding contribution towards poverty reduction and called for accountability and responsibility among residents.

"The contribution of residents is crucial in development and others should learn from such good examples,”

Mutakwasuku said. "Everyone should be responsible while utilising the investment so that it can last longer.”

According to Ceasaria Kantarama, from the Nyarucyamo Ubudehe committee, the contribution of the residents was central but there is still a lot to get done.

"The water project was not an easy job and we still have debts to pay. The contribution of residents is still needed since the contractors have been patient with us,” Kantarama said.

The residents joined local leaders to celebrate their achievements and affirmed their commitment to continue supporting community development initiatives in future.

Over 500 residents from areas of Rutenga, Nyarucyamo I, II and III zones, are expected to benefit from the development.
