Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) has released new guidelines in environmental education and training. The guidelines contained in a paper titled ‘Rwanda Environmental Education for Sustainable Development Strategy’, also include a five-year action plan for 2010-2015 highlighting areas of interest to consider when dealing with environmental conservation.

The guidelines contained in a paper titled ‘Rwanda Environmental Education for Sustainable Development Strategy’, also include a five-year action plan for 2010-2015 highlighting areas of interest to consider when dealing with environmental conservation.
"In order to enhance the delivery of its mandate in promoting sustainable development, REMA recognises the need to have a clear strategy for Environmental Education for Sustainable Development (EESD),” the document’s executive summary states.
"It therefore became paramount to develop an implementation strategy to guide and give direction to the provision of EESD in all sectors of the economy”.
Speaking to The New Times, REMA’s Director of Education, Rachael Tushabe, said the paper guide in proper environmental conservation.
She also revealed that the document comes on the back of Rwanda adopting the United Nations General Assembly resolution designating a UN decade of education for sustainable development.
The country is among the few African countries to come up with such an environmental strategy.
