City main roads to be closed for renovation

Kigali city will effective today block some of the main roads leading into the city centre as a measure of giving way to the ongoing construction. Among the roads to be blocked is SOPETRAD which is to be expanded by seven meters and is expected to be complete within two months.

Kigali city will effective today block some of the main roads leading into the city centre as a measure of giving way to the ongoing construction.

Among the roads to be blocked is SOPETRAD which is to be expanded by seven meters and is expected to be complete within two months. 

The road will only be open to traffic entering the city centre while all those heading out will be using access roads in Kiyovu. 

Also to be closed is Kacyiru road which stretches from the US-Embassy to Kinamba where vehicles and pedestrians will be using Gisozi, UTEXRWA –Nyarutarama roads depending on where they are going and a stone paved road which connects to Kacyiru roundabout. 

Renovations to the road that stretches up to Yamaha House in Muhima, began mid last month and is slated to be complete within 74 days.

The works are being carried out by a Chinese company, China Road and Bridge Corporation.

Aimable Gasana Ndakengerwa, city Director General said yesterday that the construction of other 103.8 kilometre stretch will commence in July will cost Rwf 52bn.

Over 145 kilometres of tarmac roads in several parts of the city are slated to be complete by June next year.
