RULINDO - Musanze District registered the highest number of crimes in the Northern Province over the past three months, according to a recent Police report.

The report that was made public last Friday during a provincial security meeting, shows that Musanze registered 191 crimes, Gicumbi 34 and Rulindo 19.

Members at the security meeting noted that the majority of the crimes are attributed to consumption of illicit alcohol.

Speaking at the meeting, the provincial Governor, Aime Bosenibamwe, urged the leaders present to use the meeting as a platform to find means of fighting all forms of crimes and other related incidents detrimental to the security of residents.

He called upon district and sector leaders to strengthen community policing committees at all levels.

The meeting was convened at Nyirangarama, Rulindo District. It brought together Mayors from the districts of Musanze, Rulindo Gakenke, Burera and Gicumbi.

During the meeting, all Mayors were given time to report on the security situation in their respective districts over the last three months.

The meeting resolved to strengthen Joint Operations Cells (JOC) which are comprised of all security organs in the province, by providing them with cell phones to coordinate security information.

Also present were Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) Division Commander, Brig. General Alex Kagame and the Regional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Peter Hodari.
