From the ancient Jewish civilization as a cultural bond to the Islam world as a sign of their faith, circumcision has been a widely respected social practice.

But of recent, many countries have embarked on circumcising babies shortly after birth not for traditional or religious matters, but for good health.

Before being scientifically proved, naming circumcision as one of the control methods of HIV/AIDS sounded more like a tale.

After debates, the scientists went to the laboratory for a more reliable source for the circumcision-AIDS prevention precision. The results were positive and circumcision turned out to be one of the many effective ways to control AIDS spread.

A circumcised man has more protection from AIDS during unprotected sexual intercourse because the virus is denied shelter below foreskin of the penis-it cannot spread during sex.

However that this doesn?t guarantee 100 percent protection, without the use of condoms and mutual faithfulness as the prevailing ideal preventions.

Circumcision also helps to prevent other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) especially Candidiasis or thrush. This fungal infection that is often characteristic of AIDS and cancer victims begins with uncleanliless in a person?s genitals. It is potentially life-threatening in its late stages if not treated.

When a man is circumcised, this filth can be prevented, thus the risk for candidiasis is narrowed.

And cancer is one of the illnesses that have claimed many lives in today?s world. We have talked of cancer of the skin, the lungs? but another category, cancer of the penis is rarely mentioned.

Cancer of the penis is rare (0.001%), caused by the natural inability of a foreskin of the penis to contract or pull back during an erection. This situation is painful and sex is more or less impossible for an infected partner.

But circumcision takes 100 percent credit for prevention of this cancer. Some older men who go for surgery with bladder or prostate gland problems also develop difficulties with their foreskins due to their surgeon?s handling, cleaning, and using instruments. Such patients call for circumcision to beat their situation.

Did you know about urinal tract infection? Well, this is another painful infection caused by bacteria which find their way to the urethra, bladder and kidney lining through the opening of the urethra (the tube that ushers urine out).

Symptoms of alternating cold and heat, loss of appetite and fever appear in babies; the mainly affected group. Risk of this infection reduces 10 times in circumcised babies, as compared to the uncircumcised.

Despite the risks involved in circumcision, like the fear of pain and loss of blood, the benefits automatically outweighs the pain and fear.
