GATSIBO – Police in Gatsibo district are hunting for people behind a failed grenade attack that occured on Wednesday in Muhura sector.

Police say that, Dorothy Mukabugingo, survived an attempted grenade attack by unknown assailants.

‘She was from buying food items at a certain centre in Muhura sector when assailants detonated a grenade at her but fortunately it did not explode,’ Police said.

The Muhura sector leader, Emmanuel Bagire said local authorities were working with police to track the suspects.

However, area residents suspected the incident to be an act of revenge. Some residents who spoke to The New Times say that this incident could be connected to a previous one in which two children were early this year killed by a similar grenade attack in the same Sector.

Seeking for revenge they add, may have been a primary motive for the latest incidence.

‘One thing that can be said about this incidence is that this woman’s husband John Bosco Rudisi was accused of being behind the grenade attack that killed children in this Sector.

We suspect the parents of the deceased children to have sought revenge by trying to kill his wife,’ one resident who preferred anonymity told this paper.
