RUSIZI – Rwandans have been urged to accord more time to work so as to catch up with other member countries of the East African Community (EAC). 

Porres Muyombo, an EAC legal Advisor made the call at a sensitization meeting in Rusizi district on Wednesday. 

"Rwanda  as one of the latest entrant into the EAC should be able to  offer some value within the bloc,” he said.
Muyombo noted that customer care is still a challenge in Rwanda, which he said is a hindrance to getting at the same level with the other EAC member countries.

He added that there is need for the business community, especially in the remote areas, to change their mindsets, if they are to compete with their counter-parts in the economic bloc.

He advised Rusizi residents to take advantage of their proximity to DRC to boost their businesses. 

"You can set an example in trade because you share a border with Congo. If you embrace the East African Community and work like the rest of the EAC countries do, be rest assured that Rwanda will be successful,” said Muyombo. 

Residents however, said lack of capital hinders their business development efforts and called for more sensitization workshops on the operations of the EAC.
The meet was also attended by officials from various government ministries.
