Launching of Police Sports Week

The sports week in preparation for Police tenth anniversary celebrations was launched this Wednesday 19th May by a march of policemen, the military and students from schools of KIGALI City.

The sports week in preparation for Police tenth anniversary celebrations was launched this Wednesday 19th May by a march of policemen, the military and students from schools of KIGALI City.

The march to inaugurate Police sports week begun in the morning from Gishushu RDB Roundabout, and converged to Remera AMAHORO "Petit Stade” where the ceremonies were held.

The audience at Petit Stade was entertained by KARATE team demonstration, KUNG-FU performers and athletes. Among the guests were the Minister of Sports and Culture Joseph HABINEZA, the Mayor of GASABO District and officials from the Ministry of Youth.

In his speech for the event, The Commissioner General of Police E.K GASANA remarked that sports, peace and security are inter-linked. He also highlighted that Police week was an opportunity for RNP to get closer to the youth as it plays an important role in the development of a nation. He stressed that during Police week "Police will work with the youth to prevent crime and sensitize people to fight it.”

The guest of Honour, Minister of Sports and Culture HABINEZA Joseph, said that Rwanda Police is different from former Gendarmerie which was corrupt. He also stressed that a good policeman like the youth must practice sport to stay healthy ,and, moreover sports makes a person sociable and is a factor which increases discipline in life and at work.

He called upon the youth to help National Police control security through Community Policing.

The launch was closed by a ten kilometers run by Police athletic club and other athletes of the capital.
