Haringingo on brink of the sack as Gasogi pip Rayon

Gasogi United on Friday stunned Rayon Sports 1-0 at Kigali Stadium in a League game that concluded the first round of Rwanda Premier League.

The defeat put Burundian coach Francis Haringingo on the brink of being sacked from the Blues’ hot seat after losing his third game in a row.

A 45th minute goal from striker Christian Malipangou was enough to help Gasogi secure their first league victory over the Blues since they were promoted to the top flight league during the 2018/19 season.

Rayon started the game brightly but their dominance was short-lived as Gasogi took control before the end of the first half, with the visitors taking the lead through Malipangou.

The striker sent Gasogi ahead minutes after striker Leandre Onana limped off through injury in what was a huge blow to a Rayon side that was looking to win the clash to retain their top spot.

The second half saw Rayon lifting up their game but still failed to break into Gasogi’s well organized defense.

Chances were far and few in the last 20 minutes as Gasogi played a more tactical game and held on to win their very first victory in the last seven meetings and jump to fourth on the league table with 28 points and go level on points with third-placed APR and struggling Rayon who dropped to fifth.

AS Kigali finished the first round of the league leading the table with 30 points despite losing 2-1 against Sunrise. They are only separated by goal difference with Kiyovu who beat Marines 1-0 in Rubavu on Friday to go second on the table with 30 points as well.
