GICUMBI -  A transit goods truck belonging to Rwanda Tea  Authority lost control and swayed off the road, knocking Friesian cows at Gasumo farm, last Sunday, Police said.

The accident happened at about 40 km along Kigali-Gatuna highway.

Byumba Police say the incident happened when the truck transporting tea from the authority’s Kigali  headquarters to Mombassa- Kenya, lost control after its cabin got detached from the main trailer.

"The cabin swayed off the main road and knocked Friesian cows which were grazing at Gasumo farm. Both the driver and turn boy escaped unhurt,” said the police source.

The Gasumo farm manager, Frank Taremwa, told The New Times that the cabin rammed into a herd of grazing cattle before plunging into the farm’s water stream.

"The truck could have knocked down more  cows, had it not been stopped by the water stream,” said Taremwa.
Rwanda Tea Authority workers later on carried  off the Mombasa bound consignment back to Kigali.
