Rwanda Energy Group (REG) have signed APR center Victor Mutabaruka and United Generation Basketball Club (UGB) point guard Jean de Dieu Umuhoza, as the club reinforce squad ahead of new season.

The 2022 national basketball league defending champions are trying to fill the void left by trio of Jean Jacques Nshobozwabyosenumukiza, Axel Mpoyo and Ellie Kaje who all moved to APR after helping the club clinch their second consecutive league championship.

Each of the duo signed a two-year contract that will keep them at club until December 2024.

Times Sport understands that the team has extended the contracts for five of its current players namely Pascal Niyonkuru, Parfait Ishimwe, Kami Kabange, Prince Muhizi and Hervé Icyishatse, who all agreed to stay at the club on a two-year deal each.

REG will represent Rwanda at the 2023 edition of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) that will kick off in March.

The club expects to add more firepower – both local and foreign – before the showpiece starts.
