Our Past Initiative, a youth-led organisation, on Wednesday, December 22 signed a Rwf6 million agreement with Ngeruka High School in Bugesera District to start a chicken farming project.

The poultry project is part of a Rwf30 million project of a modern menstrual hygiene management room built at the school by Our Past Initiative, with support from Bank of Kigali as the main sponsor, and Rubis Energy Rwanda.

The room, unveiled in November this year, was equipped with all materials a girl needs during her menstruation period, and has two beds that can be used by the girls when necessary.

The poultry project is expected to sustain the management of the room. It will not only help the school but the neighbouring community at large, the organisation said.

Intwari Christian, CEO of Our Past Initiative, said the poultry project came at the right time to make sure that the goal of the larger project is realised.

"As Our Past Initiative, when we started building the room, our main goal was to provide a way to sustain it. Now that we are going to be able to do it, I’m very happy and proud of my team for everyone’s effort. I would like to take this time to thank our main partners Bank of Kigali and Rubis Energy Rwanda for a huge contribution towards this project,” Intwari said.

Our Past Initiative has 442 members in Rwanda and around 300 based in America, Canada, China, and Malaysia.
