Rwf 14bn for ORINFOR upgrade

The national information agency, ORINFOR, has entered a Rwf 14.3 billion contract with a US company, Harris Corp, to upgrade their broadcasting network in every corner of the country by year end.

The national information agency, ORINFOR, has entered a Rwf 14.3 billion contract with a US company, Harris Corp, to upgrade their broadcasting network in every corner of the country by year end.

The Acting Director General of ORINFOR, Willy Rukundo, said the national broadcaster is working with the Florida based company to provide top quality TV images and FM radio transmissions.

"ORINFOR is trying to move from analog broadcasting to a digital broadcasting system,” Rukundo said on phone.

"We hope that after completion, Radio Rwanda will be heard in all places in the country. Installations are ongoing and might be complete by the end of this year”.

In a related development Rukundo assured Rwandans that they will be able to follow all World Cup matches on Rwanda Television.

"About six months ago, we signed a contract with FIFA so that we can be able to broadcast the matches. We had to part with 100,000 dollars (USD),” Rukundo noted. The national broadcaster comprises of Radio Rwanda, TVR and two newspapers.
