JEAN Claude Gasigwa put his Davis Cup frustrations aside to storm the second round of the Bralirwa Tennis Open which threw off on Monday at Nyarutarama Sports Club.

The tennis ace cruised through after a 6-1 7-5 victory over rising star Hamis Gatete to stay on course of pocketing a winner’s Rwf150, 000 cash prize.

The tournament which is divided into three categories; professionals, amateurs and women, has attracted 64 players from eight clubs including Cercle Sportif, Remera, Laico, Kanombe, Gisenyi, Ruhengeri, UNR and Nyarutarama.

Two days into the tournament, Nyarutarama club president Barth Gasana is already impressed with the level of tennis.
"This year, it’s not only the professionals who are playing at a high level. Players in the amateur and women category are also playing very competitive tennis- the players have realized the importance of winning trophies,” he said.

Bralirwa injected Rwf5m and the company’s Managing Director Sven Piederiet noted that the company which has also been involved in football (Primus league), basketball and volleyball, is very committed to sports sponsorship since it falls under its social corporate responsibility.
