Champions AS Kigali maintained their five point cushion at the top of the league with an emphatic 11-0 thrashing of Les Lioness at Mumena stadium on Sunday.

League top scorer Mefya Hakizimana was in imperious form, scoring six goals that took her tally of the season a staggering 24 goals in 12 games, that an amazing ratio of two goals a game.

Team captain Shadia Uwamahirwe added and striker Sandra Uwimana each added a brace while left back Claire Uwamahoro got one to complete the Kigali City Council side’s biggest win of the season.

Meanwhile, rivals APR defeated Rubavu 5-1 at Nengo playground. Anatholie Nirere, Aman Mbikeka and Aimee Flora Tuyizere scored the military side’s goals.

But despite lagging five points behind in the race for the league title, APR coach Egidia Kayitesi is refusing to give up on the race.

"They (AS Kigali) will definitely drop points. They still have to play Inyemera, Aspej and GSSR, teams which can make them drop points.

"We have already played them all and we are hoping that they can do us a favour,” an upbeat Kayitesi said.

In the other league matches, Muhoza defeated Inyemera 2-1, Aspej saw off Bugesera 1-0 win, while Ruhango lost 0-3 to GSSR.
