RWANDA’s Davis Cup team recorded its worst performance in recent years after losing all their matches in this year’s Europe/Africa Zone Group III competition.

The Rwandan team finished in tenth position out of 14 teams that took part in the competition that climaxed over the weekend in Morocco.

In the play-off for the 9th to 10th position, Rwanda lost to Ghana 0-3. Dieudonne Habiyambere lost to Menford Owusu in three sets 2-6 7-5 0-6. Olivier Nkunda also lost to Emmanuel Mensah in straight sets 2-6 2-6.

In doubles’ category, Melee Bizimana and Justin Ntaheranwa lost to Emmanuel Mensah and Menford Owusu 2-6 2-6.

Rwanda finished the championship without winning any match despite fielding an experienced side. In group D, Rwanda lost to Nigeria 0-3 before another 0-3 loss to Algeria.

Hosts Morocco won the tournament after beating Madagascar 2-0. Tunisia finished third while Algeria was fourth. Nigeria beat Benin 2-1 to finish fifth while Benin finished sixth.

Zimbabwe scooped seventh position after beating Ivory Coast 2-0 while Kenya beat Botswana 3-0 in the 11th to 12th play-offs while Cameroon beat Congo 3-0 in the 13th to 14th playoff.
