Rwanda international Rafael York is on his way out of Swedish second tier club AFC Eskilstuna after telling the club management that he has no plans to extend his stay when his contract expires on December 31.

York, 23, joined the Superettan [Swedish second division] club on January 21, 2021 from Kalmar FF and has gone on to play 57 games, scoring 6 goals and providing 3 assists.

Eskilstuna sporting director Jawad Al Jebouri said the midfielder has declined fresh contract talks with the club and is considering his future elsewhere, with top flight league clubs in Sweden increasingly showing interest in his services.

"We offered York a very good deal and I can&039;t do more. Then I can move on," Al Jebouri told Swedish newspaper Kurien.

"I assume that Rafael York, Alexander Michael and Felix Michel will not play at AFC Eskilstuna in 2023, so I have to work with other names," he added.

Times Sport understands that some teams in the Allsvenskan, which is the first division league in Sweden, are monitoring York’s situation at Eskilstuna in an attempt to swoop him before the transfer window ends in March 2023.

York previously played for a number of Swedish clubs including Gefle, Sandvikens IF and IFK Varnamo as well as then German second tier side VFL Bochum.

Born to an Angolan father and a Rwandan mother in Stockholm, York played for Sweden up to the U19 level before switching allegiance to Rwanda.

He made his Amavubi debut on October 7, 2021 in a World Cup qualifier against Uganda. He has gone on to earn five caps in the Rwandan national team.
