Reports  from the Senate, this week, have shown that housing projects for Genocide Survivors were flawed and the House has summoned senior government officials, who have been in one way or another, associated with the administration of FARG (Fund for genocide survivors),  to
explain what happened to the finances.

A report released by the Committee on Social Affairs has shocked Senators and the public who have been following the proceedings. It details the rot that has derailed the completion of housing units that were meant to shelter Genocide survivors.

Government officials who have been responsible for overseeing FARG are blamed for the mess, and some of them are due to be questioned by the
Committee.

The report points out what it describes as "highly carelessness” on the part of the immediate former Minister for Local government, as well as the current State Minister for Social Affairs, under whose jurisdiction FARG falls.

As the overseers of the Fund, the Ministers will have a lot of explaining to do, given the fact that they were directly responsible for FARG, and yet the entire fraud and mismanagement happened on their
watch.

Many survivors have continued to live in difficult conditions, owing to the mismanagement of resources by some greedy officials.

Therefore, any move against anyone suspected of embezzling genocide survivors’ funds, must be supported for the sake of enforcing accountability.
