GICUMBI - The Byumba Anglican Church Diocese (EER) in partnership with Christian Aid Rwanda, last week launched anti-malaria community sensitization campaign at Bushara Health Centre in Shangasha sector.   

The sensitization campaign attracted a total of over 2000.
Speaking at the event, Gicumbi district vice mayor in charge of social affairs, Eugenie Uwamahoro, called upon residents to use mosquito nets at all times to avoid the spread of malaria and join health insurance schemes.  

"It is important for all residents to join health insurance scheme (Mutuelle de Sante) in order to access medical treatment at subsidized cost,” said Uwamahoro.   

She further challenged residents to practice family planning, drink clean water and fight all forms of domestic violence. 

The Byumba EER bishop, Onesphore Rwaje, said the church is committed to providing spiritual and health care to all residents. "The mission of the diocese is to care for the body and soul,” said Rwaje. 

During the function, district leaders participated in administering de-worming tablets to children, issuing bed nets, water purification syrup to pregnant mothers and condoms to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS.
