Journalists on the march. They have a debt to the Rwandan people.

Editor,

On Thursday, journalists in Rwanda preparing for the World Press Freedom Day, honoured the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and most especially the 49 journalists who were killed during the Genocide.

While I commend the fact that they marched to Nyanza to commemorate those we lost, it is my hope that each and every one of them internalized the fact that the media, at the time, was used in diabolical manner.

Media practitioners did a disservice to the people because they spread hate, and now it is my sincere wish that they realize the kind of responsibility they have.

They should not nurture hatred and sectarianism, but hope and reconciliation.
