Feather weight results
H. Matusi lost 7-10
A. Akbulut

RWANDA’S barren run in the on-going Aiba World Youth Championship continued on Tuesday as Aziz Matusi lost out to Turkish opponent Akbulut Alperen in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Matusi lost out on points (7-10) after losing the first (1-3) and second (1-2) rounds and drawing the third (5-5).

The feather weight pugilist will be disappointed with his display ahead of the Singapore Youth Olympic Games where he will carry Rwanda’s flag.

Matusi is the second Rwandan to be ejected from the championship after Peter Habyarimana who fell to Marriaga Campo Eduar Antonio of Colombia in the preliminary round.

Habyarimana, who was competing in the bantam weight category (54kg), was knocked out after just one minute and 59 seconds into the first round.

Else where, Junior World Champion Theo Krechlok breezed through to the next round with a commanding 8:0 victory over Sri Lanka’s Disnaka Herath Mudiyanselage in the flyweight division.

Asian Continental Youth Champion Jiang Jinyong also progressed with ease on the morning’s biggest winning margin, allowing his opponent Ivan Strashnyi from Ukraine only one scoring punch in his 19:1 victory.
